Vegan Dinner (Followed by Peaceful Foie Gras Demonstration) - Fridays at 5:30 p.m. at Happy Family Vegetarian Restaurant in Costa Mesa

Come join OCPA for dinner at the newest vegan restaurant in Orange County, Happy Family in Costa Mesa, followed by a peaceful demonstration at Marche Moderne Restaurant in South Coast Plaza. Feel free to come to dinner, or the demo, or both. However, note that because of South Coast Plaza's permit rules, attendance at the demo is limited to six people.

We'll meet for dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 6:50 p.m., and then head up to South Coast Plaza for the demonstration from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Happy Family Restaurant (Dinner), 1400 Bristol Street (200 feet North of Red Hill, next to Travelodge), Costa Mesa, CA; phone: 714-668-9288.

Marche Moderne Restaurant (Demo), 3333 Bristol Street (inside South Coast Plaza, on 3rd Floor near Nordstrom), Costa Mesa, CA.

Help OCPA demonstrate against foie gras at Marche Moderne Restaurant in South Coast Plaza! We've attempted unsuccessfully to convince the restaurant's management to take foie gras off their menu. Now it's time to explain to their customers that foie gras is cruel, and those who support Marche Moderne support cruelty.

Those who eat foie gras are eating the diseased, unhealthy liver of a duck which is 85% fat, a disgusting prospect in itself. But it's not just unhealthy for humans. Foie gras is created by forcibly restraining ducks three times a day while a rough steel pipe is shoved down their throats to overfeed them and make their livers swell to 10 times normal size. The birds often die during the feeding process from injuries to the stomach or esophagus. Those who don't die experience the same extraordinary pain a human would if force-fed 40 pounds of pasta per day.

The foie gras campaign has resulted in several local restaurants removing foie gras from the menu, including Five Feet, the Sky Room, DaVinci's, Mr. A's, Hammamori, French 75, The Winery and Laurel's. Please help us make Orange County foie gras-free. We have signs and banners. We just need your presence to help the animals.

Tabling at Orange Coast College, South Coast Plaza, Irvine Spectrum and Other Locations

OCPA has also made arrangements with Orange Coast College, South Coast Plaza, the Irvine Spectrum and other venues to table there and educate people about animal rights on a regular (weekly) basis. We're currently looking for volunteers with some time available on Tuesday or Thursdays throughout this coming season. Please contact us at information@ocpausa.org if you are interested in tabling. Include "Volunteer" in the subject line and your name, contact phone number, and the days/times you have available for distributing OCPA, Why Vegan, Try Vegetarian and other literature. This is a fun way to help the animals!
